The Paradigm of Success -- Oscar Winner Visits Meishi
Date: 2009-12-10

Oscar Winner Richard Taylor gave a lecture on film-making in the Gym of Chengdu Meishi International School on December 8, 2009.

Richard Taylor works in Weta Workshop and the Workshop is a special effects company based in New Zealand, producing effects for television and film. Weta Workshop's output came to worldwide prominence with the films “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy, “King Kong”, and “Narnia”, which won him 5 Oscar Awards based on design of best costumes and animation. Richard Taylor has become the only one who has received 5 Oscar awards.

Chengdu Meishi International School was also proud to host a special lecture by Mr. Richard Taylor during his
visit to Chengdu. Mr. Taylor gave a lecture to our students on film at Meishi from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., on Tuesday,
December 8, 2009. As a matter of fact, on December 6, 2009, Richard Taylor had an individual conversation with
I.B. students of Chengdu Meishi International School during his arrival press conference. He found out that
Meishi I.B. students are creative thinkers with a great potential to be filmmakers and make great contributions to
the Chinese film industry in the future. Mr. Richard Taylor put some film props, which were used in the movie of
“The Lord of Rings”, on two of our students, which seemed scary but vivid. Mr. Greg Broadmore used Photoshop
to draw some pictures on site, which interested a lot of Meishi students. This lecture, given by the world-class
filmmaker, had a strong influence on the vision and thinking of the audience about the effects of Modern-day film
and the role of film making in China.
